What is the 5S standard management system?

5S is the first letter of Japanese words: SERI, SEITON, SEISO, SEIKETSU and SHITSUKE.

  • SERI (Refinement): To review, sort out, select and remove unnecessary things at work.   • SEIKETSU: Care is understood to be a regular maintenance and standardization of the first 3S (Seri, Seiton, and Seiso). In order to ensure 3S is maintained, it is possible to set up a standard that outlines the scope of each individual’s 3S responsibilities, how and where to deploy 3S. S4 is a process in which the sense of compliance of employees in an organization is forged and developed.
  • SHITSUKE (Willingness): It is a habit of self-discipline to comply with the regulations at work. Be ready to be expressed in the employee’s sense of self-awareness for 5S activities.
